We all have a number of wonderful features, but unfortunately we often focus on our negative features. This is a shame because most women can be simply dazzling with a very light, yet skillful application of makeup. In this article, we will discuss some subtle makeup techniques to help you look your best simply and easily.
First, begin with fresh, clean skin. Find just the right cleanser, toner and moisturizer for your face. Cleanse your face once or twice a day, depending on your skin type. Remember to always cleanse your skin before applying makeup. This will help your skin stay healthy and give you a nice, fresh palette to begin with.
They type of cleanser, toner and moisturizer you choose will depend upon your skin type. For very dry skin, you may choose to simply use a natural oil, such as olive oil, to cleanse. Follow up with a natural toner such as pure lemon juice. In this case, you will not need a moisturizer, as the olive oil will be sufficient.
Women with combination skin may do well washing with a lightly moisturizing skin cream and water. Tone with witch hazel and moisturize with pure aloe vera gel. This combination provides light moisturizing but will not clog pores.
Women who have very oily, acne prone skin may need to use specialized acne treatment products available from a pharmacist or dermatologist.
Once your face is thoroughly cleansed, toned and moisturized. Apply foundation makeup lightly overall. Your foundation makeup should be a tone lighter than your natural skin tone. Apply it quickly after you have applied your moisturizer. Be sure that your hands are not overly dry by applying a little moisturizer or hand cream to them before applying your makeup. In this way, your foundation will go on smoothly.
Follow application of foundation with a light dusting of face powder overall. This will set your foundation. It is alright to apply it over lashes and brows, as it provides a good foundation for mascara and eyebrow pencil or filler. Brush off excess powder with a soft makeup brush.
For a quick and easy finish for daytime, use your blusher as both blush and shadow. Apply it lightly over your cheekbones, at your temples and at the outer corners of your eyes. A dash of blush across the chin adds nice contour. Brush off excess with a soft makeup brush and blot your entire face with a wash cloth moistened very lightly with cold water. This will set your makeup and prevent it looking dry and powdery.
Apply mascara, eyeliner and eyebrow pencil if desired. If you do not use eyebrow pencil, be sure to shape your brows with an eyebrow brush. This will help them to look neat, and it will help remove any powder that may still be adhering to them. For evening, go for more drama with eye shadow and perhaps a darker or more dramatic shade of blush. For day, keep it simple and light.
Good makeup begins with good skin. Knowing your skin type and caring for it appropriately is of the greatest importance. Be sure to choose the right products for your skin type. Apply makeup sparingly and carefully to enhance your best features and help you look your most beautiful day and night.
